The Parent Trap1998The Parent Trap
1998
Hallie, from a California vineyard, and Annie, from an elegant London home, meet at summer camp and realize they're twins, each raised by one parent. They trade places to meet the parent they've never known, and to keep their father from marrying the wrong woman.
For children old enough to talk it through: sustained intensity, or language or sexual content that Common Sense Media rates 7–9.
Why it’s here
A faithful remake in which twins who long to know their missing parent work to make their family whole, with reunited parents as the happy ending worth hoping for.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Divorce is central, and the twins deceive both parents for weeks; the film plays it as charming and rewarded, so it's worth a talk about honesty. Wine flows at the vineyard (one girl is given a sip), a girl skinny-dips on a dare at camp (from a distance), and the pranks on the fiancée are mean-spirited.

- Was it right for Hallie and Annie to trade places without telling anyone?
- Why was Meredith so wrong for Nick?
- What did Martin and Chessy do to help? Were they right to?
Content advisory
Common Sense Media 7+: frequent wine drinking (a child sips wine); smoking; a distant skinny-dip with no nudity; pranks and kissing.
