1967
Raised by wolves in the Indian jungle, the boy Mowgli must leave when the tiger Shere Khan returns. The panther Bagheera means to lead him to the Man-Village, but carefree Baloo the bear, a hypnotizing python, and a swinging king of the apes all have other ideas.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
A boy raised in the jungle must learn to trust the ones who guard him on his way home to his own people. It has Baloo's friendship, Bagheera's protective wisdom, and songs children never forget.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Shere Khan's attack and a moment when Baloo seems to have died may upset little ones, and Kaa's hypnosis is creepy. Some viewers read King Louie's apes as a racial caricature (Disney+ attaches an advisory), and Mowgli runs from those protecting him and learns why they did.
