1973
With good King Richard away on Crusade, the cowardly Prince John taxes Nottingham into poverty. Robin Hood, a fox, and his loyal friend Little John, a bear, rob from the rich to give to the poor, and plan to win both the archery tournament and Maid Marian's heart.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
Robin and Little John defend the poor of Nottingham against a cowardly prince, and loyalty to the rightful king and plain courage shine in a charming animal cast.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Cartoon swordplay, flaming arrows, and a fire, and Friar Tuck is jailed; Sir Hiss gets drunk. Robbing from the rich is framed as justice against a tyrant's taxes, which is worth talking about.
