Young David Balfour goes to claim his inheritance, only to be cheated by his miserly uncle and shanghaied aboard a ship bound for the Carolinas. With the Jacobite rebel Alan Breck Stewart, he escapes and flees across the Scottish Highlands.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
Robert Louis Stevenson's adventure: an honest Lowland boy and a swaggering Highland rebel become loyal friends across their differences.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Sword fights, a battle aboard ship, shootings, and the uncle's attempt to kill David are mostly bloodless but intense for little ones; the villain is exposed and justice done. Nothing else of note.
