Why it’s here

Irving Berlin's songs and Fred Astaire and Judy Garland at their best. A vain man learns to see a woman for who she really is.

Context notes

For parents, before you press play.

Don uses Hannah partly to spite his old partner, which the film shows as wrong before he learns to value her for herself; there's a love triangle and some jealousy. Nightclub drinking; nothing else of note.

Discussion questions

When the credits end, go around the room. Each person gives the film a score out of ten and says why.

  1. Why did Don want to make Hannah a star?
  2. Was it fair to Hannah to try to make her into Nadine?
  3. Which number was your favorite?
  4. What did Don learn by the end?
