2011
Lightning McQueen heads overseas for a World Grand Prix and brings along his best friend Mater, who promptly embarrasses him. When Mater is mistaken for an American spy, he's swept into a plot to sabotage the race.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
Lighter than the first film, but at heart a story about loyalty: McQueen learns to stop being ashamed of his friend, and Mater learns that he's enough as he is.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Spy gunplay, bombs, and two cars killed (one crushed, one tortured to death off-screen) make it much more violent than the first film and may frighten little ones. McQueen's harsh words to Mater are shown as wrong and he apologizes, which is a good talk about loyal friendship.
