1968
A new track coach in a small coastal town accidentally summons the ghost of the pirate Blackbeard, who can't rest until he does one good deed. Together, the rum-loving pirate and the coach try to save the inn of a group of elderly ladies, Blackbeard's descendants, from a gang of crooks.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
A pirate's ghost must do one good deed to earn his rest, and helps a coach protect a group of elderly ladies from crooks. Peter Ustinov is a delight.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Blackbeard drinks rum constantly and gets the coach drunk, played for laughs, and there are gangsters and gambling. The ghost earns his rest by doing a good deed, which is worth pointing out.
