1992
Aladdin is a street thief with a good heart who dreams of more, and Princess Jasmine longs to escape the palace. When a scheming vizier sends Aladdin into a magic cave, he finds a lamp holding a wise-cracking Genie, three wishes, and a temptation to win the princess by pretending to be someone he's not.
The default: films the whole family can watch together; any scary or intense moments for the littlest viewers are flagged in the Context Notes.
Why it’s here
A thief who pretends to be a prince learns that lies can't win a true heart, and keeps his promise to free his friend at the cost of his own wish.
Context notes
For parents, before you press play.
Aladdin steals to survive and lies about being a prince; the lie nearly costs him Jasmine and he confesses, so it's a good talk about honesty. Jafar, the giant snake, and the Cave of Wonders can scare little ones, and the dancers wear skimpy outfits.
